There’s something about a light breeze and the sun’s golden rays that makes me want to escape for some time alone with my husband…one of the main reasons we live at the beach!  Yet last summer, on a much-needed break from the kids, we sat in the parking lot of Wal-Mart desperate for something to do together.  We ended up having an impromptu brainstorming and planning session to come up with some fun warm weather date nights before we finally settled on our activity of choice.

However, spending quality time together doesn’t have to be difficult or cost a ton of money.  May this list of creative date nights help you reconnect whether you’re staying at home or having a night on the town.

Free or frugal date nights

  1. Get a new Christian marriage devotional and read it outside as a couple
  2. Go for a hike
  3. Mini Skillet Pizookie Date — say whaaat? Just trust us, it’s amazing!

  4. Sit by the pool for an afternoon without kids (even if it’s the kiddie pool in your own backyard!)
  5. Watch a movie under the stars
  6. Have a caramel apple date night
  7. Go geocaching
  8. Create an outdoor scavenger hunt
  9. Take a prayer walk together and cover each room of your house in prayer
  10. Use a date night jar to help keep your date nights fresh
  11. Go camping
  12. Take a “dream home tour” of open houses in your favorite neighborhood
  13. Go for an evening stroll without kids and make sure to hold hands
  14. Dance under the stars
  15. Have a bonfire, make s’mores, and discuss your life
  16. Go the park and play on the equipment (no kids allowed!)
  17. Cook your favorite summer recipe together or experiment with a new one
  18. Visit a local airport and watch the planes take off
  19. Window shop and pick out an item that reminds you of your spouse (without actually buying it!)
  20. Go on a bike ride

  12. Do an Ancestry DNA Kit and each make a food dish of your predominant ethnicity
  13. Recreate your 1st date and try to be as authentic as possible

  17. Rent a convertible for the night and ride with the top down
  18. Play mini-golf
  19. Dress up and go to a museum
