Review & Giveaway: HOAC Extreme Weather Note Pack

This past week our precious 10-year-old daughter {Princess} had a wonderful time reviewing In the Hands of a Child’s “Extreme Weather” Note Pack. It is designed for a week long scientific study – perfectly fitting as a supplement with our regular science curriculum. This note pack is aimed at children in grades 4-8, which was wonderful as our daughter is finishing up grade 5.

This note pack is filled with 88 pages of information including:

  • 7-day Planning Guide
  • Related Reading and Bibliography
  • 25 Hands-On Activities
  • 18-page Research Guide
  • Answer Key

Although Princess had a pretty basic understanding about all the extreme weather taught in this note pack, it was the bibliography and hands on activities that really reinforced any previous knowledge she was working with.

Princess enjoyed the entire unit but particularly enjoyed learning about monsoons, droughts, and ice storms. It gave her the desire to go to the library and get more books about these subjects. In addition, Princess LOVED doing the 3 experiments: cloud experiment (using the scientific method), making rain, and conducting a temperature experiment.

All-in-all, this unit was a HUGE success and I will certainly use it again when my two younger children reach an age of greater understanding. I would highly recommend In The Hands of a Child (HOAC) for note packs (designed for older students) as well as their lap books (for younger children) for your homeschool!

  2. We love HOAC! As the mother of six homeschooled children, I have really appreciated the well planned units. We have especially loved the hands on activities in each unit.

  3. We have used HOAC products for years now and really enjoy them! I have seven daughters and 4 of them entered the local Science Fair this year. Of those 4, three used HOAC lapbooks for their projects and ALL THREE brought home ribbons: 1 first place, 1 2nd place, and 1 honorable mention.

  4. These would be a FANTASTIC addition to our family's studies! We loved using HOAC's lapbooks when our older children were younger (and now the younger children love them), and I'm sure we'll love the note packs for our older ones!

  5. I know that Hands of a Child make some really great lapbooks, I must have most if not all of their US History lapbooks! lol I find they are well designed and include a really good reading list and internet sites. I would love to try their notebooks, so far a have picked up one or two but, haven't had the chance to make them with our son yet because we haven't gotten to those topics yet!

Right now, we are learning about astronony, our solar system, and space travel. I would love to be able to use a notebook with our studies to see if our son would remember the materials better. I don't know if it's because our son has autism or because his attention span isn't the greatest but, he just doesn't seem to remember as much as I would be happy with.

This would be such an opportunity to try another product of Hands of a Child!

  6. We love HOAC products. The notepacks are a huge blessing for my boys who don't like cut and paste! Love!

  8. My daughter willl be in 4th grade next year and this would come in handy for sure.
