Battlefields & Blessings {a double review & giveaway}

Iraq/Afghanistan Stories of Faith and Courage (Battlefields & Blessings)

As a veteran of both the Iraq (OIF II) and Afghanistan (OEF VI, VIII, XI) wars this book very encouraging. For the first time, I able to read other soldiers experiences incorporated with scripture.

What I Like About Battlefields & Blessings

The soldiers were very transparent. I can recall several times during OIF II where many of the circumstances these devotions described affected my life as well.

The devotions were short and to the point. From past devotions that I’ve read they tend to be too long, but these were right on for me. From a soldier’s perspective, especially during deployments, we don’t have the time to read long devotions as we are at war and have to keep our guard up at all times.

This book gives a glimpse of what soldiers go through on the front lines. I recommend this devotion to any spouses that have loved ones in the military as this devotion can give them insight they may not otherwise have about their soldier.

This devotion would help any soldier, Christian or non-Christian, to gain peace of mind in hostile environments like those found while at war. For soldiers who have not been deployed, this book could give you insight on some things that you may face on a day-to-day basis while deployed.

Michael Kercheval is currently a soldier in the United States Army. He has been married to Carlie Kercheval since June of 2000. Together they have 3 amazing children. Michael enjoys martial arts, baking, and traveling with his family. Michael is putting together an online men’s ministry, so keep an eye out for his new project. You can find him on Twitter.

Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front (Battlefields & Blessings)

As a woman who has waited on the “home front” for my husband through 5 long combat deployments, I was very excited to have the opportunity to read a book written by others who have walked in my shoes. Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front did not disappoint, it spoke deeply to my heart on so many levels.

This devotional is a great book to give insight to anyone – whether connected to the military or not – about what life was like for those who waited back home. The book has 365 different devotionals that were written by women, children, and men who were waiting on the home front while their loved one was at war. From the French Indian War through the current war in Afghanistan you will read all sorts of wonderful encouragement from families of different eras facing the same everyday struggles.

My favorite part about this devotional are the insights into the peoples lives that lived during different periods of history. Regardless of what time period these devotions cover, one thing remains the same: God is sovereign over all. Each day gives a scripture and daily prayer/confession to speak that are very simplistic yet very powerful. I like that I can do this devotional in the mornings before I begin homeschooling the children and it gives me a great start to my day.

I would recommend this devotional to any military spouse, those with family/friends in the military, as well as those who love history and God. It is a breath of fresh air for those of us who understand what it means to be on the home front while our loves ones fight in a war to protect our right to do so.

  1. Thanks for such great words. I am one of the authors of the book and also a military wife (now widow) and mom so the topic was dear to my heart. I learned so much through the research!

      Thanks so much for stopping by! Bless you for all the time you have served alongside your soldiers – both of them 🙂 And thank you for teaming up with Jocelyn to create such rich and unique resources that bring to light some of the things that military families face 🙂 Have a blessed Wednesday! ~Carlie K.

  2. I am always looking for a devotional to include in the military boxes we send out from our church. It would be nice to purchase several of them. Currently, we have 11 men and women who are serving. Please let me know how to go about obtaining several of these devotionals. Thank you,
