10 Scriptures for Wives to Pray Over Their Husband

3 Reasons Why Prayer for Your Husband is Important

If you’ve been married for any amount of time, then you know it can involve many ups and downs. From adding children and changing jobs to moving locations and experiencing heartbreak – there are many reasons to pray specifically for your husband.

Praying for your husband is a form of caring for them.

As the head of the household, husbands have a great responsibility to care for their families. There is a great commission placed on the title of “husband” and they can sometimes experience their own level of defeat or depression. Meet your husband’s discouragement with prayer and watch how God works.

Prayers over your husband can help protect them from the wiles of the enemy.

We all know the enemy’s primary mission is to steal, kill, and destroy – especially the ideas and roles of a godly husband. Keeping your husband covered in prayer will serve as an extra barrier of protection from anything the enemy seeks to do to him.

Praying for your husband can help your perspective of him.

No marriage is perfect and it’s easy to get in the mindset of seeing your husband for all the things he’s not doing or measuring up to. When you humble yourself to pray for your husband, it helps you see him how God sees him. In return, you’ll express more grace and mercy toward him.

10 Scriptures for Wives to Pray Over Their Husband

Jot down the ten Scriptures below in your favorite journal (or just grab a piece of paper). As you write them down, see them as individual promises that you are proclaiming over and on behalf of your husband. In other words, adopt a mindset of victory as you petition the Lord for your husband.

Another quick tip is to not let praying for your husband become a mundane task. Instead, always see your prayer times as fresh moments to speak with the Lord.

Pray for your husband’s career.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. (Proverbs 16:3)

Pray against his temptation.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2)

Pray for your husband’s protection.

He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. (Proverbs 2:7-8)

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1)

More Scriptures for Wives to Pray

Pray for his role as a husband (and father).

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. (Ephesians 5:25-27)

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)

Pray for your husband’s strength.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:6-7)

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. (Colossians 1:9-11)

Pray for a spirit of peace.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Final Thoughts

We’ve given you a little more than ten Scriptures but some of them are too good to just stop at one. Remember to declare and decree these with boldness over your husband. Also, as time goes on, don’t hesitate to add more Scripture to your journal and prayer time. We’re praying and rooting for you!
