Veggie Tales: The Little House That Stood Review

I don’t know about your family, but our family has been a huge fan of Veggie Tales for the last 12 years since our firstborn came into the world. From the amazing character lessons to the silly songs, Veggie Tales has been a huge hit in our home with all 3 of our children! So you can imagine that our family was excited when we were able to sit down together and watch The Little House That Stood: A Lesson in Making Good Choices.

Why We Loved The Little House That Stood

The use of nursery rhyme characters. One of the very first things we noticed about this Veggie Tale movie that was different than any other we had watched before was the fact that they infused popular nursery rhyme characters throughout the two parables. We saw The Three Little Pigs, Humpty Dumpty, Little Bo Peep, and Goldilocks to name a few. These familiar nursery rhyme characters mixed with our children’s love for the Veggie Tales cast was an instant hit!

The use of two familiar parables. In this lesson about making good choices, the two short movies were based off of two familiar parables: The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:27-37) and The Parable of the Wise Builder (Matthew 7:24-27). These are two parables that our children are familiar with but of course this movie put a wonderful twist on them giving insight to our youngest (4-year-old son) to the oldest in the house (me!). It really drove home the major points of these two parables – to love your neighbor and to be a doer of God’s Word (not just a hearer).

The humor. As always, we laughed several times because of the humorous lines infused throughout the movie. This is one area that the Veggie Tales films always manage to do well – make us laugh – alongside learning extremely valuable biblical lessons in character training. And let’s not forget about the newest Silly Song: Happy Toothday! It is sure to cause some laughter in your home.
