There is Hope in Jesus {for Weary Moms}

The door is locked. I need just 5 minutes in the bathroom….to be ALONE.

Alone with my thoughts for the first time all day, I think about our morning in images that flash through my mind like scenes from a movie. The name of my movie on this day…Weary in Seattle. The day is young and there are still many hours to go. The laundry is in piles everywhere. The counter tops haven’t seen the light of day since yesterday morning. Kids are half dressed. Toys are everywhere. School books are unopened and everyone is feeling offended today.

Back to the present…

Our youngest is desperately trying to get in. He’s pounding on the door, screaming my name. The others are not far behind. Again, “Momma, I need you.” I reassure him from where I am that he’s okay and momma will be right there. I know he’s not in danger. There’s silence. Finally, he’s given up. A few minutes later, I open the door only to have my little one fall down backwards at my feet and stare up at me with relief.

I’ve felt that way before. In fact, I feel that way, often.

Like this…

I’m desperate to get to Jesus. Grasping for anything, a Word of Comfort, a ray of Hope, an ounce of Peace…a way in, past all of the obstacles that stand in front of me. And He whispers….”I’m right here. You’re okay sweet one.”

But, I can’t get to Him. Something is in my way. So, I press in, hard. I lean in as much as I can, hoping to break through whatever barrier is keeping me from my Jesus. I want to SEE Him. What is this thing in my way? Why won’t it move? Why won’t He just move it for me?

And then…

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

I spend a lot of time leaning on my own understanding. Do you? All this trying and striving…half hearted attempts at really trusting God for what He can actually do right in the midst of my mess…because my mess sometimes feels like an anchor. Can you relate? Sometimes my mess is myself and other times it’s the difficult circumstances I’m facing that cause me to feel overwhelmed.

As moms, we serve our families every single day. We’re in high demand, often with very little time for a moment to ourselves. Jesus was too. You may be feeling hopeless, betrayed or unappreciated and finally…there’s weariness. But there is great news. Recognizing that weariness is where we can begin to see our greatest strength. Jesus. Where we are weak, He is so strong. And that is why there is absolute Hope in Him who loves us, even when we’re sitting right in the middle of our very own storm. There are the daily struggles and the ones that completely knock us to the floor. No matter what kind of weariness we feel, it can feel paralyzing and completely defeating.

But, that is not what The God of All Hope has in mind for us. I am really excited to tell you about a book club I am hosting called Hope for the New Year that begins January 7. Could you use a little Hope this year? Maybe a lot? I know I can. I would love for you to join me, along with hundreds of other weary mommas, as we read Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Meets You In Your Mess by authors, Brooke McGlothlin and Stacey Thacker. We will spend ten Hope-filled weeks digging into God’s Word and discovering how we can actually have the kind of Hope that creates Joy in our hearts and purpose in our lives as we walk through Motherhood each day. We don’t have to do it alone.

You can find all the details and sign up information for this book club over at Hope for the Weary Mom. I just know God’s going to do amazing things through this study. I really hope and pray you’ll join us!

Sweet Blessings to all of you moms who are feeling weary. We absolutely CAN have abundant Hope this year. It’s what God wants for all of us.
