How to Coupon Without Losing Your Mind

I don’t know about you, but I realized all too quickly that my personality mixed with extreme, serious business couponing was NOT a healthy combination. Seriously. I am not knocking those who are extreme couponers, but I am saying that I know for sure that it doesn’t work for everyone.

What do I mean?

Well let me put it to you like this, it is something that I would lose sleep over. Yes, I am dead serious. I was so concerned about getting the best deal that I was actually losing sleep over it. And that is where my type-A get ‘er done personality started showing me that my newly forged relationship with extreme couponing was not going to work.

Did this mean that I would quit couponing all together? No. It just meant that I needed to modify couponing so that it would work for me.

How did I do that? Let me show you what I do that is working out well for me (and there is no insomnia or craziness associated with it for me haha).

  • I only use coupons that I can search for and print off online. This is a biggie for me. When I realized how much time, space, and money I was losing hoarding coupons, I realized printing off coupons as I needed them was my solution.
  • I let the Favado App take care of my price comparisons. If you haven’t signed up for the FREE Favado App, I highly recommend it. This app not only does price comparisons of your favorite stores, but also gives you the inside scoop on secret sales and pairs all your coupons with them!
  • I also use a few cash back apps that pay me for purchasing certain grocery items each week. I use Ibotta and Checkout 51 — they are super easy to use and have great rebates each week.
  • Only do what you can do. I had to learn that I can’t get the “best” deal EVERY single time. While the bargain hunting blood running through my veins tried to tell me otherwise – I learned the hard way that I simply cannot know about everything all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying you shouldn’t try to get good deals, I am simply saying, when it starts to stress you out – you’ve gone too far.

This is my personal formula to still get fabulous savings and use coupons without losing my mind! And the best part? We are able to eat whole foods consisting of primarily fresh fruits and vegetables along with some fish and chicken for our family of 5 for under $100 a week. This includes all three meals for 7 full days. We make our own breads, and eat at home most every day. We also bake our own nutritious gluten free snacks. Hey, that works for me!

While my plan may not be the exact fit for everyone, I hope it inspires some of you to modify your existing couponing plan if it is bringing stress into your life. As a famous viral YouTube video said, “Ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat!” I know I sure don’t! Here’s to stress-free couponing! Fist Bump!
