3 Ways Christian Health Care Benefits Your Marriage

One thing that we are always covering in prayer is the health of our family. If you are anything like us, when it comes to your family’s health, you will do whatever it takes to make sure they have the best care available. And while this can certainly be a challenge, we are excited to share our story with you today to give you hope in making the right health care choice for your family.

For the 15 years Mike served on Active Duty in the Army, our family had healthcare. While many say it was “free,” we strongly disagree. The healthcare we had in the military came at a very high cost to our family. The healthcare we had in the Army was a result of 7+ years of separation due to combat tours and training; time we will never get back.

As a result of those 15 years of service to our country, our family suffered some great losses and are still healing. Michael is now a 100% PT Disabled Veteran who is treated for both TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and a plethora of other physical injuries. This was the high cost for our healthcare. It wasn’t until Michael was medically separated from the Army that we realized the toll our healthcare had taken on our marriage and family.

But your family’s healthcare doesn’t have to come with such a high cost.

After Michael’s medical separation from the Army, we found our family facing some difficult medical situations with two of our children. That was when we began looking for solid healthcare for our family and quickly found that traditional plans were not the best choice for us. We’re pleased to share that we found a solution in Christian health sharing. And not only that, we found some major benefits to our marriage (and family) in the process.

3 Ways Christian Health Care Can Benefit Your Marriage

Today we are sharing three of the ways that using a Christian health sharing program can benefit your marriage. These three ways have proven to be true in our own journey as a married couple and we are certain you can experience these benefits, too.

1. It saves you money.

It’s no secret that money fights are the number two leading cause for divorce among Christian married couples (second only to infidelity). According to a survey done by Ramsey Solutions in 2018, almost two thirds of marriages start off with debt, including medical debt. This is an alarming statistic. Thankfully there are alternatives now that can save you money while still giving you amazing healthcare coverage.

Did you know that UHSM Christian health sharing can offer significantly lower cost care than through the Affordable Health Care Act plans? As a matter of fact, you may find savings of up to half the cost of what you are currently paying through traditional health care plans! We don’t know about you, but that gets us excited. Saving money while giving our family holistic healthcare is a win-win for our family as well as the others in the program.

2. It reduces stress.

As a married couple with children, one thing that caused us stress after Michael’s medical separation from the Army is health care. It wasn’t until after Michael was out of the Army that we found two of our children in need of serious medical attention. This was one of the most stressful times of our 20-year marriage.

After 15 years of service to our nation, we found ourselves scrambling to get a healthcare plan for our family of 5. This stress led to many sleepless nights and began to take a toll on both our physical and mental health. And as a result we felt as if our own health was on the decline while trying to care for two of our children who were in and out of the hospital and still being there for our youngest child.

It wasn’t until we learned about Christian health care organizations like UHSM Health Share that we began to regain peace of mind. Why? Because we realized that we were regaining control over our own health care, we no longer had to be worried about going to the doctor, and we knew that our fellow Christian members had our back.

Another wonderful benefit is the always open enrollment. This means that you don’t have to wait to join, members can be added anytime. This certainly reduced our stress as there was no waiting until Annual Open Enrollment at the end of the year, which meant our children could be taken care of right away.

3. It connects you with a like-minded community.

As a Christian married couple, it gives us such a breath of fresh air to be connected to fellow Believers. As a matter of fact, it’s biblical to be in fellowship with other Christians. So how much more amazing is it to have a hand in being able to help fellow Christian families’ health care needs be met through the shared fund? It’s helping us to have a greater purpose in the role of other members’ health—and that makes us feel wonderful.
