Online Marriage Book Club: Team Us (Week 7)
Online Marriage Book Club: Team Us (week 7)
Welcome to week five of our online marriage book club! If this is your first time here at Fulfilling Your Vows, we are so grateful to have you. For our current book club, we are working through Team Us: Marriage Together. Be sure to look at the “Something More…” section below the video that gives more candid insight into author Ashleigh and husband Ted’s marriage.
This Week’s Reading (Chapter 6)
This week we are working through Chapter 6. We encourage you and your spouse to read through the introduction together or separately (which ever works best for you) and then schedule a time to chat about it. It is best to write anything down that jumps out at you so you can discuss it further with your spouse. We also encourage you both to pray together asking God to open your heart to receive what He wants to show you each week.
This Week’s Video Discussion
This week we filmed outside again in the beautiful California sunshine! This has become our new filming spot as we are far enough away from the children to make sure you can hear us 🙂 Without any further ado, let’s dive into week 7!
Want to dig deeper? For further study, please visit Ashleigh’s blog for a free downloadable study guide.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this week’s study! Please leave your comments below or go ahead and start a conversation over in the Facebook community!
Something More…
In this chapter, we talk about how we dreamed together as Ted contemplated what was next for him career-wise. It’s interesting because it wasn’t until I (Ashleigh) sat down to write this section of Team Us that we really realized why dreaming together mattered for our marriage, especially in the midst of a stressful season.
What did we come to see? That for us, dreaming helped us get past our personal story lines and become intentional about writing a shared narrative. We were no longer two protagonists, but sidekicks. As we imagined and sought what God had for us in the days and weeks and months to come, we penned our adventure together, side-by-side. Not separately and individually.
Because here’s the thing: Life is ultimately a story; a tale that the Author of all creation is writing. An epic drama that He’s actively directing with all of its ups and downs; both its tragic and comedic moments. And the truth is that in this story of His, no individual or relationship is static. We are each going to change. Our marriage is going to evolve. But the question is: Will we choose to change together, developing our storyline together through chapter after chapter of plot twists?
Maybe you and your spouse are currently facing a big decision, a transition, or maybe the stress of finances, parenting, or work. If so, why not take some time to dream together? To consider how you and your sidekick might see your story unfold, together.
And who knows? Perhaps like us, you may just find yourself hanging a United States map in some room in your house, too. Or maybe even that’s too constrictive; maybe the storyline the Lord has for you calls for a map of the world.
See you back here next week!
