From the Earth
“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Many live life with no thought to this. As Christians we focus on serving, obeying, loving, and praising God. We read the Word and work daily to apply it to our lives. We study the Word and share it with others (verbally and by example). In this process, however, many of us forget to take care of the vessel that carries out these actions.
We are a society that depends on information in order to educate and continue our education for many things in life. We even depend on the information that comes from experiences instead of books. With all there is to take in, there is one thing we need to keep, at all times, on the top of the list. This book will teach us everything we need to know about everything from history to nutrition. Have you figured out the book yet? Yep, you guessed it… THE BIBLE!!!
I am speaking on a particular topic at the moment, and this would be nutrition. I am sure we have seen the multiple nutritional charts and pyramids that exemplify the important foods and how much of each food group we should eat. If you look at them, the vegetables, fruits, and grains, of course, are the ones that are to be consumed the most!
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face for all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” (Genesis 1:29)
I am not here to preach vegetarianism or veganism, but instead to ask you to take a moment to think how a different way of eating may change your life. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, then you already know the difference; hopefully you are allowing God to use you to share those benefits with those around you through your testimonies as well as your actions.
I understand that God also says that every beast of the earth, fishes of the sea, and every fowl of the air shall fear you (Gen. 9:2-4). I am not saying we should disregard meat altogether. I just believe that the main focus has come to be more on the foods that are not healthy for us instead of the ones that are.
In Daniel, he demonstrates how eating of the earth can make one healthier than one who also eats meat and wine (Daniel 1). Again, I am not saying to cut meat out of your diet, or anything else for that matter, but to simply consider the benefits of doing so. Even Daniel knew to eat only of the earth during a time when he was seeking God’s wisdom and direction.
So as you wonder why you are feeling sick all the time, take a moment to read what God wants you to eat and try a different diet, even if just for a while. When the medicines are not working for your headaches anymore, take a look at your diet. When you have exhausted all of man’s resources to get better, cling to the Bible and search for the provisions that God has given us to live a full and abundant life.
