5 Ways Blogging Has Strengthened Our Marriage

A little known fact about us is that professional blogging has strengthened our marriage. Seriously. We have learned to navigate some things very unique to the blogging industry while building our company together that have done nothing but draw us closer to God and one another.

If you had told us 6 years ago when this blogging gig took off that it would actually bring us as close together as it has, we likely wouldn’t have believed you. While blogging together about marriage can definitely help strengthen it, it has been through working together that has made us stronger. We’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs while building our blogs and business, every bit of hardship is worth all of the amazing ways that blogging has strengthened our marriage.

5 Ways Blogging Has Strengthened Our Marriage

5 Ways Blogging Has Strengthened Our Marriage

1. It has helped us to grow in our faith together.

Because our blogs and faith-based products have become our sole source of income, we have learned to depend on God in an entirely different way. We no longer look to outside sources for jobs, we trust God as we create our own jobs. This has been a wonderful way to grow in our faith together. And the best part? We are able to help married couples strengthen their marriages! We actually produced one of our best-selling products (Consecrated Conversations: 30 Devotions for Couples) during a time that we were living by faith.

2. It has helped us learn to trust one another on an entirely different level.

Because our marriage was founded on Christ, we’ve always had a strong bond of trust. However, becoming professional bloggers and building a blogging business together has taught us to trust one another in new ways. Who knew that keyword research or setting a business budget would build so much trust! It’s been fascinating to see how much we’ve grown together simply by building a business together.

3. It has taken our goal-setting game to an entirely different level.

While goal setting and planning have always been a large part of our marriage, there is a big difference between planning for everyday life and planning out your family’s livelihood. Because building our own company has enabled us to be self-employed, making money for our family falls entirely on our shoulders. And this has taken our goal-setting to a much higher level, which in turn has strengthened our bond of trust and teamwork.

4. It has given us a renewed sense of our purpose as a Christian couple.

Back in 1999 as a newly engaged couple, God spoke to our hearts that one day we would help God’s people build stronger marriages. While we always knew in the back of our minds that this would come to pass one day, we just continued to live our lives until God said it was “time”. Then in 2011 God began to remind us what he had spoken to us all those years ago, and in February of 2012, Fulfilling Your Vows™ was born. This journey has been a blessing from day one and continues to help us focus on Jesus as we share about His goodness and promises for marriage. He is so faithful!

5. It has given us an ever deeper understanding of financial freedom.

Building a strong Christ-focused marriage is something to be celebrated. To build a company together and live out a debt-free lifestyle is just icing on the cake. This has strengthened our marriage because we know exactly how we got here. We both lived out every fear, every failure, and every disappointment. These trials taught us a lot about ourselves and how much we need Jesus in everything that we do. We do not take any of the blessings God has given us for granted because we know none of this would be possible without Him.

While we have certainly learned a lot more than these 5 things above, there is no doubt that blogging has strengthened our marriage. Because of God’s faithfulness to us, we have been able to build two blogs and create several products that glorify His name and teach us countless lessons in the process. We are so thankful for the opportunity to work together and serve Jesus together through our blogs.
