Art in History

Early American Sugar Bowl Art Kit

For our review we chose the Early American Sugar Bowl. This project fit in perfectly for our daughter’s current study of the Moravian Potters. Because we just came back to the US from living in Germany for 3 years, this piece was of particular interest to our daughter. The kit comes with a sugar bowl, lid, paint set, paint brush, sponge, and two plates for the paint.

The art kit also came with a basic lesson plan that included some American history from the time period of 1800-1805. It also gave a historical background about the early American sugar bowl as well as sample motifs of finished bowls. The lesson was concluded with step-by-step painting instructions.

A Kinesthetic Learner’s Dream

This project is a great way for hands-on, kinesthetic learners to be able to express what they have learned about through art. While our daughter can learn through a variety of ways, I have found that when it comes to art combined with history, what she learns sticks better when she does a hands-on art project. Needless to say, this project really melded her love for history and art all-in-one making it a dream project for her. She is looking forward to doing more of these projects down the road.
