Review & Giveaway: SAT ACT Mastery
Recently I was contacted by Craig Gehring, the author of the new book, SAT ACT Mastery to do a review. I was immediately intrigued by the title of his book as I only missed two on my SAT scoring nearly perfect. Although I didn’t have a “plan” to score this well, I do want to give my precious homeschooled children a plan to succeed on these tests if they desire to go on to college.
My Thoughts:
This book is full of very great and practical advice. It is something that parents, especially homeschool parents, can read to gear some of their teaching to help their children master subject material. Once the children are older, Craig is speaking on level that high school aged children can understand. He talks in depth about the importance of mastery in all subjects giving very clear and concise ways to achieve this. His examples are vast and accurately give insight to the true simplicity of mastering subject matter. One thing I found to be entertaining was Craig’s use of the word “cheat.” At first glance when I saw this word, I thought, “What in the world?” But he merely suggests that actually doing all of the work instead of the bare minimum requirements is “cheating.” Clever use of words, especially when talking to teens!
The book takes an in depth look at:
- mastery
- vocabulary
- memory trick
- secrets of math
- talent vs. mastery
- how much reading is enough
- the “Holy Books”
- rounding and education
- quick testing tricks
- and MUCH more
I think this book will prove as an asset to any parent who is unsure how to approach the SAT or ACT test. I also think that it is written in a way that can help boost the confidence of your high school student(s) preparing to take either of these tests.
