6 Ways to Keep Fun in Your Marriage

As many of you reading this already know, marriage isn’t always a party. Some seasons are tougher than others, and sometimes we have so much on our plates that we begin to let them weigh us down. If this goes on for too long, it starts to affect our health, our family, and even our relationships. If this sounds like you, don’t panic.

The solution doesn’t have to be anything expensive or dramatic. In fact, it’s often the little things that can revive your marriage. If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, or are starting to feel the heaviness of having too much on your plate, here are 6 things you can do to keep your marriage fun.

6 Ways to Keep Fun in Your Marriage

  1. Prioritize your marriage – You have to make your marriage a priority, above your hobbies, work, and sometimes even your children. Your spouse knows when you are choosing to put them first, or when something else has your attention. Make time every day to spend intentional and quality time with your spouse. Even just 10 minutes can make all the difference.
  2. Mix up the routine – Fight the usual by mixing up your normal routine every now and then. Stay up late, or get up before the sun rises and take a morning walk. We usually don’t stay up late on weekdays, but sometimes we will stay up later just to talk or do something together as a couple.
  3. Try a new place to eat – Think of all the places you go out to eat together. Could you count every place you regularly go to on a single hand? Changing up your routine with something as small as a new place to eat is a good way to keep your marriage fun. You can get even more adventurous and try a new cuisine such as Thai, Mediterranean, Indian, etc.
  4. Enjoy each other’s interests – It’s okay to have outside interests, but remember that one of the goals of marriage is to enjoy your lives together. Try to get your spouse involved in an activity you really enjoy, and vice versa. Not only does it show you are taking an interest in them and what they like, but it’s a great chance for the two of you to spend time together!
  5. Don’t forget the little things – You don’t have to spend any money or go on an elaborate trip to show how much you love them. In fact, it’s often the things that don’t cost anything at all that mean the most. This can be something small like surprising them by picking some flowers, or cooking dinner for them unexpectedly.
  6. Dream and plan together – It’s easy to discuss future plans while you’re dating, but when you’re married, it’s often harder to dream together. Setting goals and dreams as a couple keeps the relationship fueled by new passions and desires.  Create a bucket list together of things you want to do as a couple, and be sure to check back often to make sure you’re actually completing things.
