The Heartbreak Of Deployment – And The Love Of Jesus
Today was one of those days that military wives/mothers call “heartbreaking.” Today, my youngest child, Little Caveman cried and cried not wanting to be consoled simply because he “misses daddy.” Little Caveman, at the tender age of two is in the midst of his second long deployment – again separated from his daddy for a long, long time. He woke up from his nap wailing and crying, “I want my daddy! I want my daddy!”
That is the heartbreaking part.
But let me tell you about the LOVE of Jesus!
The LOVE of Jesus is real, it is alive at work in the hearts and minds of those who call him Lord. Even in the midst of the pain and tears of missing daddy today, Little Caveman would experience the LOVE of God in a major way.
Below you will see one way that Jesus LOVED on our precious children today, and as always, His LOVE is ON TIME!

Hugs to all of you. Those days are the toughest! It's one thing for YOU to miss Him, but when it really hits the kids and there's nothing you can say or do, sometimes only a God thing like the pillows help! A few years back my daughter was having one of those moments(she was about 3 and a half–she's 9 now)and the same thing saved us too! I was in bed literally praying…asking God to give me SOMETHING to help her. And we got our "daddy pillow" that night out of one of the pillows he normally used and one of his Tees. I tell you that pillow has traveled with us, been to restaurants and gotten its own seat, gone to theme parks with us, etc., etc. It's so worn out now, its not even funny, but she won't go anywhere without it. Thank God for helping us find ways to help the little ones through!

Carlie, my heart goes out to you and your children. We have been there and I completely understand.
I just love, love, love the pillows! Before my husband left on his last deployment, he had made a build a bear with each child with his voice recorded inside saying a goodnight message. That had a disadvantage, though. They played them so much that the batteries went dead pretty quickly! 🙂

@ Lisa – Yes, my husband always makes build-a-bears for each (I have a video posted when they received the most recent :), DVD video recordings for each child (where he prays and reads the bible and their fave books, gives life advice, etc). This always helps the kiddos make it through all this time away from daddy 🙂
These are adorable. We did pillow cases with pictures one year! So fun! And, I am sure Daddy will love those smiles when he sees that last picture.
I remember those days all to well. It takes everything inside of you to stay strong for them as they cry out for daddy. I never had picture-pillows of them with their daddy, but what I did weeks before the deployment was take a shirt and make a special pillow case for each of the children and Patrick's smell would stay on the pillow!!
My youngest would always go find his pillow and snuggle next to me.
Those smiles that come after we talk with them and let them know that Daddy is OK and will be home soon! I know that they feel close to him because you have done a wonderful job of keeping him close to their hearts. God Bless!
