Communication in Marriage: Active Listening

We are thrilled to be bringing you the first video in our new blog series: Communication in Marriage. This series was birthed out of a conversation we were having when deciding how we wanted to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary on June 10, 2016.

As we talked about things that were important to us, we kept talking about how thankful we both were for the gift of communication we’ve been able to share during our 16 years of marriage. And while our marriage hasn’t been perfect, we can honestly testify that we have been able to successfully communicate our way through many things that drive most couples apart.

From financial hardships to losing two children to long separations during deployments – we have watched God keep our marriage strong through the simple act of good communication in our marriage.

Communication in marriage is something that we have always made a high priority and we have seen the fruit of it over and over again. We are excited about this first video where we share what we consider the first component to successful communication in marriage – active listening.

According to the Mosby’s Medical Dictionary, by definition, active listening is the act of alert and intentional hearing, interpretation, and demonstration of an interest in what a person has to say through verbal signal, nonverbal gestures, and body language (Mosby’s Medical Dictionary, 9th edition. © 2009, Elsevier).

We address this important part of communication and share personal stories as we seek to help others become more active listeners in their marriages.

We pray that this video blesses you!
