So, I’m Really Going To Do THIS?……

This fall marks the ‘OFFICIAL’ start to my son’s first year of school. As the school supply ads come out and many friends are attending Kindergarten round-up at public and private schools, I begin to think….

“I’m really doing this. Teaching them. Alone….” {shivers…}

I won’t lie. I’m scared. Scared I’ll miss something. Scared they’ll miss something. Scared they’ll regret not going to school. Scared I’ll regret them not going to school. I’m worried I’ll yell too much. I’m worried I won’t be as exciting as they want it to be….

Then. I stop. I breathe. I pray. And remember….

He Takes Your Worries:
Psalm 55:22
Give your worries to the Lord,
And he will take care of you.
He will never let good people down.

“I just can’t do this!” Do you ever feel that way? I never thought I would. I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I taught MANY children in public school prior to being called to homeschooling. I blog about the topic, for goodness sakes!

I stop. I breathe. I pray. And remember…

All the knowledge, degrees, and experience in the world will not dull our lack of confidence because only…

He Gives Me Confidence:
1 John 5:14-15
And this is the boldness we have in God’s presence: that if we ask God for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us. If we know he hears us every time we ask him, we know we have what we ask from him.

Not to mention feeling tired. I’m pregnant with our 4th child and my boys are 5, 3, and 1. Between housework, marriage, errands, how on earth can I make all the time for school too? I’m so tired already, it seems. I also have no family nearby to help. Not extra money for a maid. I certainly can’t keep up!! Then…

I stop. I breathe. I pray. And remember…

He Allows You to Rest:
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.

And

He Gave You a Powerful Spirit:
2 Timothy 1:7
God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid but a spirit of power and love and self-control.

If you’ve never felt some of these emotion before…good for you! However, if you have, know you’re not alone. We homeschooling moms understand and have been there. Even more important, there is a Savior that loves you and values our every worry and concern. He has led you and me to this difficult and humbling journey of motherhood and homeschooling. Perhaps it wasn’t in my plans (or yours), but I know no matter what…

He Provides:
Matthew 6:33
The thing you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you.

Liz was a cheerleader swept off her feet by the football player back in high school. They’ve been married nearly eight years and are the proud parents to three young boys. She’d always envisioned working and sending her kiddos off to school so she could live the ‘normal’ American dream. However, life and the Lord surprised her and she’s learning to ‘redefine having it all’ while being a homeschooling housewife. She enjoys finding strength from God’s word, the Today show, talking on the phone with friends, and being real about finances and parenting. She’s blogging about homeschooling and much more over at The Hesitant Housewife.
