Today we’re going to talk about the power of biblical confessions for your marriage. The Bible is very clear that our words are a very powerful tool and it’s important that we understand how to use them.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. (Proverbs 18:21 AMP)

According scripture, our words have the ability to build up, tear down, and produce change in relationships. This is a gift from God and we need to use it wisely – especially in our marriage. Marriage is the most amazing human relationship you can have second only to your relationship with God.

But how? How can we be sure to guard our marriage, especially with our words?

The best way to start is to be intentional about your words, being careful to speak life over your marriage (family, and all He’s entrusted to you). To help give you inspiration, below are 10 powerful confessions (also known as declarations) to speak over your marriage.

How to Use These Confessions to Strengthen Your Marriage

Having these confessions is one thing, but actually putting them to use is what will strengthen your marriage beyond all you can think or imagine. God is not a man that He should lie and His word does not return void. Getting into the habit of saying these confessions doesn’t have to be hard. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Write them down on note cards and place them in various places where you and your husband spend a lot of time. This can be in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, or the car. Each time you come across one, declare it out loud.
  • Purchase a journal and use it for writing down your powerful confessions. Journal out the confessions, scriptures, prayers, and any other notes you want to jot down.
  • Make an effort to read and pray these confessions with your spouse. Start small and consider setting a goal to read them together on a daily basis. Reading them before bed is typically a great place to start.

The Fruit of a Powerful Marriage

The fruit of a powerful marriage comes from a covenant built on the principles laid out by God. It’s not always easy, and there are times when one or both spouses may fail miserably. However, the truth of the matter is couples have to make an effort to improve in areas they are weak in. They must also be mindful of ways the enemy would attempt to attack them.
