Koons Family Butterballs

There is one recipe in my family that makes it Christmas.  One recipe that if you didn’t make it you may have a riot on your hands.  In our family it is my Grandma Koons’ Butterball recipe!  Some may call them snowballs but my Grandmother always called them Butterballs (because half of the ingredients is butter).

My Grandmother (Gram-Cracker) and I were very close.  She was hysterical, loving and tough lady – and I am proud to say I’m her Grand-Daughter!  So you can image that this recipe (including the recipe card she hand wrote) are very near and dear to my heart.
When Carlie asked if I would share a family Christmas cookie recipe, this is the first one that jumped into my mind!  I hope you enjoy them!
You will Need:
1cup of Butter (softened)
1/4cup of Sugar
1/2t of Salt
1t of Orange Zest
1t of Pure Vanilla Extract
2cups of Flour
1cup of Walnuts (chopped)

Cream
together the butter and sugar.  Add in the
salt then the rest.

Roll into quarter
size balls
and bake in the oven at 350° for 10-15 minutes.

Cookies should be
barely brown and cracking (not breaking).

Allow to completely cool then roll in powdered sugar!
Enjoy!

To make it easier for you I’ve created a {free} printable for you – Koons Family Butterballs Recipe Card.  Because I absolutely treasure the keepsake of my Grandmother’s Recipe Card and having her handwriting, I’ve left the back of the card open for your Favorite Family Memories.  Use this area to journal the little things you want to remember.  Maybe have each family member write down their very own thoughts.  Make sure you date it!
