Enjoying the Simple Moments in Life

June is almost over? Really? I’m still trying to remember what I did in May. I hope I have at least one reader who can give me an “amen”?

Wrong! The truth is, we, as a society and nation, have become too busy to enjoy the simple moments of life. Too busy to talk with our soul, too busy to appreciate the things we do have, too busy to express our feelings on paper, too busy to create a memory to fall back on when we can’t seem to push forward. Blank pages in my journal prove I lack the discipline and time needed to connect with myself, my spirit, and my God. Your spiritual connection may look different than mine, but the same is true: it is vital that we take time to connect with each moment God has richly blessed us with.

I am at an exciting time in my life where I have been given a second chance at life. With that comes a lot of planning, budgeting, thinking (or over-thinking), and reflecting. If you are not careful, this can lead to a lot of wasted time and missed opportunities to enjoy the many blessings “now” can bring. It is so easy to get caught up in the past or future but keep in mind the future is physically out of our control and will take care of itself, according to Matthew 6:34, and the past has just one purpose: to help us navigate today without making the mistakes of yesterday (past). But too many of us miss moments each day because we are choosing to take daily dips into our past and the unknowns of the future. These dips cause us to live in fear; worry unnecessarily; and reenact hurt, betrayal, and disappointments.

I encourage you to take time to focus on today. Not yesterday or tomorrow, but this divinely ordered day God created just for you. No matter what you are going through, God says, “Worship me in truth….in good and bad times.” Worship Him through your circumstances. Circumstances are just temporary. When you worship God, your spirit rejoices. When your spirit rejoices, your will is strengthened. When your will is strengthened, your mind is renewed and you are able to enjoy the moment God has given you.

Father, thank you for this day. Thank you for giving me a chance to make a new memory. Thank you for another chance to try again. Lord, may your grace, warmth, and hand follow me on this day. Help me to bask in your Presence and really absorb the blessings of this day. I speak against distractions and meaningless tasks. Instead, may I glorify You in all that I do today. This day is special, purposeful, ordered, and good. I choose not to live in the past or in the future. I choose to live in You.

In Jesus Name, Amen!
