Consider a Gap Year Before College For Your Homeschool Graduate
This is a sponsored post by Praxis.
I am a prime example of someone who needed a gap year in between high school graduation and going to college. It wasn’t because I lacked focus or wasn’t hardworking. No, rather I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do because I had several interests and abilities. My problem was narrowing those down.
Let’s be real, who really knows exactly what they want to do when they are 17 or 18? What most of us need is more time to explore our interests before we commit to a specific field of study or a career. I am so glad that I waited a year before going to college. Even though I graduated with a 4.0 in high school, I had no idea what I wanted to pursue, and time out working with (and for) some phenomenal entrepreneurs gave me a passion for something that I didn’t know I had.
Praxis is a viable option for those who are considering a gap year before heading off to college, or simply for those who do not desire to attend college. This program takes real-world working experience and couples it with intensive curriculum giving your student an extremely marketable resume. Let’s face it, you can go to college and get a degree, but without the experience to back it up, you are not as appealing for hire as the person who has proven they know how to use their education through hands-on experience.
What is Praxis?
Praxis is a 10-month experience that pairs students with a small business in conjunction with intensive online coursework. The breakdown is simple: 30 hours of real-world work experience (with a guaranteed pay of $10 per hour) and 10 hours a week spent on educational online courses, workshops, and assignments.
