5 Ways to Know You’ve Found the One
You’ve been praying for your future spouse and believe you may have found the one; but, how can you be sure? As Christians it is important that we are using God’s Word to be the guiding force in discerning whether or not we’ve found “the one”. Keep reading for 5 ways to know you’ve found the one.
5 Ways to Know You’ve Found the One
While these five signs aren’t the only ways God can show you if you’ve found the one, they are a very good indication. If something doesn’t line up with the 5 principles below, then it would be wisd for you to keep seeking God on the matter. He will show you the truth and give you wisdom on whether or not the person you are dating/courting is the right one for you. Keep in mind that for any relationship to thrive takes effort on both parts and it would be wise to pray for both you and your future spouse daily.
1. You are equally yoked.
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” – 2 Corinthians 6:14
To put this scripture into perspective, a yoke is a wooden bar placed on two oxen so they share the burden of what they are pulling. The key is that both oxen are similar is size and stature, meaning they can equally carry the load. If one oxen is a lot smaller, the load would simply go in circles.
With that illustration in mind, you know you’ve found the one when you are equally yoked as believers in Jesus. It also means that your fellowship with one another will be in righteousness and light, instead of lawlessness and darkness. Simply put, when you are equally yoked, you are both willing to do your part as you listen to the Lord.
2. They encourage you to pursue Christ more than them.
“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me.” – Proverbs 8:17
Another good indicator that you’ve found the one is they encourage you to pursue Christ more than them. When they are more concerned about your ongoing relationship with Christ, that is a very good sign that they understand what it means to also love and pursue you.
3. They want you to trust God most.
“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” – Psalm 37:5
There are many scriptures that suggest that we not trust man (or one another); however, it is because God wants us to put our total trust in Him. Your future spouse will want you to trust God more than you trust him/her, which will also lead to trusting them as well.
We believe that’s where trusting in your (future) spouse comes into play. When you know they have committed their ways to the Lord, trusting in Him – you can be assured that what is to be will come to pass.
4. You both share the same morals and values.
“Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33
You can be sure you’ve found the one when you both share the same morals and values. The other person would never lead you to sin or do anything to ruin your witness with others. If you find yourself feeling compromised in your morals and values, that’s a good indicator that they may not be the one.
5. The relationship is glorifying to God.
“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” – John 15:8
Without a doubt, you know you’ve found the one when your relationship with them is glorifying to God. A glorifying relationship is one that bears fruit, showing evidence that they are indeed followers of Christ. These are also the kind of relationships that become good role models for other couples looking to do things the biblical way.
Overall, the primary purpose of dating (or courting) is to help you determine if you’ve found the one God has for you. One last piece of advice… do not let your feelings rule and make the decisions for you. Instead, filter your possible future spouse through the Word of God and let Him help you discern if you’ve found the one.
