5 Reasons We Love Using Mystery Of History (& a Giveaway)
Mystery of History Review
I am excited to talk to you about Mystery of History by Bright Ideas Press! This is our second year using MOH and our three children (and myself) are thrilled to embark on the next part of this journey. To be clear, we used Mystery of History Volume I last year for our children (who were then) in 8th, 1st, and K. This year we are beginning our journey together using Mystery of History Volume 2.
5 Reasons We Love Using Mystery Of History
1. MOH is unapologetically Christian.
This curriculum teaches a biblical world view by combining Bible and church history within the context of world history. As a Christian homeschooling family this is very important as we are always looking for things that reinforce our biblical worldview. It’s nice when our children are able to see connections between scripture and history – and it is very important to our family philosophy.
2. You can use it for multiple ages.
This is wonderful on so many levels. One of the obvious benefits for using it for more than one child is how much money you can save. It is always exciting to save some of your hard earned money – especially when it is not compromising your child’s education. Another amazing benefit for using it for more than one child is that you will save a lot of time with preparation and delivery of content. This is a win-win for all involved.
3. Short, digestible lessons that don’t bore.
I really appreciate this aspect of the curriculum. While my oldest and youngest are completely enamored with history, our middle child, not so much (at least not yet). So the fact that the lessons are short and very easily laid out, it provides a positive learning experience for any type of history student. The author (Linda Lacour Hobar) has a very exciting and unique narration style. This makes the lessons really fun as it isn’t the typical “boring” textbook writing style. It’s much more personable and exciting. The author’s excitement and love for history really comes through each lesson.
I think this is the most important aspect to any homeschooling curriculum we buy. We are able to easily adapt the lessons to fit any learning style and easily add more if a student desires. This curriculum pairs very nicely with notebooking and we use our Notebooking Pages membership.
5. Fun projects.
This year we are SUPER excited to be using the new Mystery of History Volume 2 Cookbook!
- creative timelines
- creation booklets
- self portraits
- learning Latin words
- photo collages
- create a family tree
- make some period specific dishes
- write like a scribe using caligraphy
- make a wildlife poster of India
- and much, much more!
